from Cat Ba town, we took a small boat on a two-day-one-night voyage through Halong Bay, a saltwater body punctuated by strange islets called karst. we spent much of our time on the roof, watching the boat part the mist.at night, one of the two boat captains brought out some of his mama's homemade moonshine for us to enjoy over cards... he mysteriously disappeared later on one of the many islands we stopped at, bringing this bottle along with him. presumably for a refill from ma.
we dove from the roof of the boat into the amazingly blue-green water, swam to deserted beaches, and kayaked through tunnels in the mountains.
